Making the most of a Bournemouth garden

Richard Gosler Turf laying 12 December 2023

Our team at Verwood Turf had the privilege of overseeing a transformation of a small garden in Bournemouth. This project was commissioned by a valued client who desired a lush, green lawn to replace their existing, lacklustre landscape. It was a commercial job that was executed professionally and efficiently.

Upon arrival at the site, we assessed the existing garden, which consisted of patchy grass and bare soil. The client had opted for a full turf installation, and we were more than prepared to deliver.

First, we meticulously removed any debris and remnants of the previous lawn to ensure a clean slate. Next, we prepared the soil by cultivating it to promote proper drainage and root growth. Soil testing was conducted to ensure optimal pH levels and nutrient content.

The chosen turf variety was a hard-wearing, fine-bladed grass suitable for the seaside climate. Carefully calculated measurements were taken to determine the quantity of turf required to cover the area effectively. We sourced premium-quality turf rolls to ensure a uniform and visually appealing result.

Laying the turf was a precise process, and our skilled team took great care to ensure each roll was seamlessly integrated with the next. The turf was carefully staggered to create a natural appearance, and any excess was expertly trimmed.

To facilitate successful establishment, a thorough watering schedule was implemented to promote root penetration and overall health. Our client was provided with comprehensive care instructions to maintain the newly laid turf.

As the days passed, the garden underwent a remarkable metamorphosis. The once barren and uninspiring space had been completely rejuvenated with a vibrant, emerald lawn. The client was elated with the outcome, and their garden now boasted an inviting, manicured appearance.

This project was not only completed on time but also within the agreed-upon budget, demonstrating our commitment to delivering outstanding results while ensuring cost-effectiveness. The transformation of this small garden in Bournemouth stands as a testament to our expertise and dedication at Verwood Turf, and we take pride in having played a role in enhancing our client's outdoor living space.

Garden clearance in Poole

Richard Gosler Turf laying 12 December 2023

We had this fantastic project last month where we were tasked with clearing a garden of weeds and shrubs and levelling the ground in preparation for laying turf. The client was eager to transform their overgrown and unruly garden into a beautiful, green oasis, and I was up for the challenge.

First things first, we surveyed the garden to get a good understanding of the scope of work. There were weeds everywhere, and the shrubs had grown wild over the years. The ground was uneven, with a few noticeable dips and mounds. But, we knew that with the right plan and some hard work, we could achieve the desired result.

We assembled a small team of skilled landscapers, and got to work. We started by removing all the weeds and shrubs, making sure to clear every nook and cranny. It was quite a task, but we were determined to make the garden look pristine.

Once the garden was cleared, we turned our attention to leveling the ground. We used shovels and rakes to fill in the low spots and spread the soil evenly across the entire area. This required some precision and patience, but we were committed to ensuring a smooth, level surface.

With the ground perfectly leveled, it was time to prepare it for turf. We carefully measured the area and calculated the amount of turf needed. The client had chosen a beautiful, lush variety of grass that would really enhance the garden's appearance.

We laid the turf meticulously, making sure each piece fit snugly against the next. It was like putting together a giant puzzle, and it was satisfying to see the garden slowly transforming.

As the days went by, the garden began to take shape. We watered the newly laid turf regularly and ensured it received proper care to establish strong roots. The client was delighted with the progress, and we were pleased to see their vision come to life.

In the end, we completed the project on time and on budget, just as we had promised. The garden was now a pristine, green paradise, a far cry from the overgrown mess it had been before. The client was overjoyed with the results, and we were proud to have played a part in creating their dream garden. It was a rewarding experience, and I'm looking forward to taking on more projects like this in the future.

New Lawn in Verwood

Richard Gosler Turf laying 12 December 2023

We were asked to revamp a garden in Verwood, Dorset, and here's how we went about it:

  1. Assessment and Planning:

    • We began by assessing the garden area and making a plan for the transformation. We measured the space we wanted to turf to figure out how much we'd need.
  2. Clearing the Site:

    • The first step was to clear the garden. We removed all the existing grass, weeds, and any debris. It was hard work but necessary to start with a clean slate.
  3. Soil Preparation:

    • With the garden cleared, we tested the soil to check its pH and nutrient levels. We had to make some adjustments with lime to get it just right.
    • We tilled the soil to a depth of about 4-6 inches to loosen it up and improve drainage. Adding compost made it richer and more fertile.
    • Using rakes, we leveled the soil, making sure it had a gentle slope away from the house for proper water drainage.
  4. Grading and Compaction:

    • We compacted the soil lightly by walking over it, creating a firm and even surface. It was important for the turf to sit nicely on top.
  5. Irrigation Installation:

    • We decided to install an irrigation system at this stage to ensure our new lawn would get proper and consistent watering. Underground sprinklers were the way to go.
  6. Turf Selection:

    • We carefully selected high-quality turfgrass that was well-suited to the local climate and the way it was intended to be used.
  7. Laying Turf:

    • Now came the exciting part – laying the turf! We started from one edge and worked our way across, making sure to stagger the joints for a seamless look.
    • We pressed the edges of the turf pieces together firmly to eliminate any gaps and ensure a uniform surface.
    • After laying each section, we generously watered the turf to help it settle and establish its roots.
  8. Watering and Initial Maintenance:

    • For the first few weeks, we watered the new turf regularly, making sure it stayed consistently moist. No walking on it during this time to avoid damaging it.
  9. Regular Maintenance:

    • As the turf became established, we started mowing it regularly, keeping it at the recommended height for the specific grass type.
    • We also fertilized as needed, following local recommendations, and took care of any weeds or pests that popped up.
  10. Enjoying the New Lawn:

    • With all the hard work done, the client cound finally get to enjoy their beautiful new lawn in Verwood, Dorset. It was a rewarding project, and the garden looks fantastic!
