New Lawn in Verwood

We were asked to revamp a garden in Verwood, Dorset, and here's how we went about it:

  1. Assessment and Planning:

    • We began by assessing the garden area and making a plan for the transformation. We measured the space we wanted to turf to figure out how much we'd need.
  2. Clearing the Site:

    • The first step was to clear the garden. We removed all the existing grass, weeds, and any debris. It was hard work but necessary to start with a clean slate.
  3. Soil Preparation:

    • With the garden cleared, we tested the soil to check its pH and nutrient levels. We had to make some adjustments with lime to get it just right.
    • We tilled the soil to a depth of about 4-6 inches to loosen it up and improve drainage. Adding compost made it richer and more fertile.
    • Using rakes, we leveled the soil, making sure it had a gentle slope away from the house for proper water drainage.
  4. Grading and Compaction:

    • We compacted the soil lightly by walking over it, creating a firm and even surface. It was important for the turf to sit nicely on top.
  5. Irrigation Installation:

    • We decided to install an irrigation system at this stage to ensure our new lawn would get proper and consistent watering. Underground sprinklers were the way to go.
  6. Turf Selection:

    • We carefully selected high-quality turfgrass that was well-suited to the local climate and the way it was intended to be used.
  7. Laying Turf:

    • Now came the exciting part – laying the turf! We started from one edge and worked our way across, making sure to stagger the joints for a seamless look.
    • We pressed the edges of the turf pieces together firmly to eliminate any gaps and ensure a uniform surface.
    • After laying each section, we generously watered the turf to help it settle and establish its roots.
  8. Watering and Initial Maintenance:

    • For the first few weeks, we watered the new turf regularly, making sure it stayed consistently moist. No walking on it during this time to avoid damaging it.
  9. Regular Maintenance:

    • As the turf became established, we started mowing it regularly, keeping it at the recommended height for the specific grass type.
    • We also fertilized as needed, following local recommendations, and took care of any weeds or pests that popped up.
  10. Enjoying the New Lawn:

    • With all the hard work done, the client cound finally get to enjoy their beautiful new lawn in Verwood, Dorset. It was a rewarding project, and the garden looks fantastic!
